The Brands

Grenson

Grenson has been making beautiful shoes in England for 140 years. We are now in our third factory, but we moved here over hundred years ago, so we’ve just about settled in.

In Sumo Footwear website you will se our range of Goodyear welted shoes, made almost exactly the same way since the process was invented in the 1870’s. Our shoes are all made of the finest leathers using traditional shoemaking methods and if we could take you around the factory you would be amazed by how much time and skill goes into making a single pair.

We have developed some new, more modern lasts and some styles that you wont see in any other catalogue, but we also have classics that any self respecting shoemaker should have in their range.

Shoe Care

Your Grenson Shoes are built to last but loving care and attention to your shoes will prolong their life.

To obtain the best performance from the leather soles of your new shoes, we advise that, for the first wearing they should be 'broken in' on a dry, rough and preferably gritty surface.

Whenever your shoes become soaked, do not expose them to direct heat; stuff them with newspaper and leave them to dry naturally.

Surface mud should be removed with a blunt instrument before it has chance to dry, taking care not to damage the leather of the upper. A damp cloth may be used to remove less stubborn dirt or surface grime.

Once dried, always follow polish maker's instructions, match the cream or polish to the shoe colour or finish.

Your Grensons should be properly polished at least twice a month; then, subject to the effects of weather, a buffing with a soft cloth should suffice each time you wear the shoes.

For soft leathers such as nappa or kid, used mainly in Grenson Moccasins, brushes are not recommended as they may bruise the fine surface. Instead, the correct shoe cream should be applied and only the very softest cloth should be used, both for applying cream and buffing.

The stout calf used in making shoes or boots is quite robust and brushes may be used in the polishing process, although a soft cloth should be used in the final polishing. It is impossible to achieve a high shine on grained leathers, but buffing will yield a deep lustrous patina.

Some ranges are burnished by hand which creates a bruised and deep lustrous effect (black excepted). This is all part of the shoe's character and individuality. The occasional use of your black polishing brush on burgundy coloured shoes or even darker tan on light brown can be effective...but take care!

Suede shoes should be cleaned regularly with a suitable bristle brush. Deeply embedded dirt can be removed with an abrasive pad - but gently!

Your Grenson shoes should always be stored with Grenson shoe fillers or 'trees' placed inside; you might also choose to store them in Grenson shoe bags. Finally, always remember to use a shoe horn when putting on your Grenson's and try not to wear the same pair of shoes two days running - give them time to recover on their shoe fillers.

FEATHERMASTER by Grenson

Take comfort in the quality of our shoes.

Every shoe in the Feathermaster range was designed and made with comfort and quality in mind. We use the softest kid, nappa and calf leathers available and combine them with the soles that “give” from the moment you first try them on.

Of course the exact shape of the shoe, from the width the to hight of the instep, is the real key to comfort so we use our 140 years of experience to create perfect fitting lasts.

Repair

At Grenson, we pride ourselves in our quality of workmanship and construction methods. When the need arises for your shoes to be refurbished we believe there is no one better qualified to restore a pair of Grenson's than the craftsmen who created them. Our restoration service ensures that shoes will be painstakingly rebuilt and re-formed on their original last to their original specification. For further information enquire online.
